February 2024 News Update

Blimey, January has been a bit of a slog hasn’t it?! Whether your month has been dry, damp or sodden, whether you’ve forgotten or smashed your resolutions, we’ve got something for anyone this February at Cambridge Junction.

We’ve been enjoying the smell of fresh paint in J2 as our painters and decorators have been beavering away giving everything a much-needed sprucing up. Still some work to be done and we will be getting a load of new furniture in the next month or so. If you’ve been in over the last few weeks, we’d love to know what you think of our new colour scheme.

Right now we’re in the midst of Independent Venue Week. We kicked off the week with beautiful Irish melodies from Martin Hayes, and there’s a fistful of fabulous gigs for you through to the end of the week, from the likes of Tom Houghton, Personal Trainer, Mr Wilson’s Second Liners (a personal favourite!), Warning x Wilkinson. Many of these are likely to sell-out, so get a move on if you want to celebrate fantastic shows and the venues who bring you incredible events week in week out.

It’s also National Storytelling Week, and we know you all love a good yarn. We’ve got mythical tales in store for you with the brilliant Katy Cawkwell and Lucy Lill bringing to life the wild world of the goddess Artemis and the dark, urban devastation of Kassandra’s prophetic visions. And Junction legend Shôn Dale-Jones returns with the magically real slipperiness of his new show CRACKING.

Another show very close to selling out this week is Abra Not So Cadabra! from the wonderful Total Arts. Total Arts is one of our most important and vital Creative Learning projects, supporting the creative development of young disabled people who work with professional artists throughout the year at Cambridge Junction. We’ve just released a few more tickets if you’d like to find out what they’ve been up to!

The building has also been buzzing the last few weeks with learners from Olive AP Academy who made two new films while they’ve been here, supported by professional artists and filmmakers, and we can’t wait to see the results.

Did you know we’re working to become a centre of excellence for work like this and Total Arts? To support this work a bunch of us (including our Chair Lucy Mills and me!) have taken the rash decision to run the Cambridge Half Marathon at the beginning of March. If you’d like to support all our brilliant work at Cambridge Junction, including our Creative Learning and artist development initiatives, and you want to financially motivate us on our cold, dark training runs (or maybe you’re running the Half already and would like to be one of our fundraising champions) you can find out more below.

See you all soon!

Best wishes,

Matt Burman
