2022 CHRISTMAS SHOW: THE NUTCRACKER

We are excited to welcome acclaimed company Moxie Brawl to our J2 stage this Christmas with The Nutcracker, a brand-new family show bursting with joy, dance and music.

Created by a company of disabled and non-disabled performers this high energy, all-inclusive show takes inspiration from the original story from 1816 and cranks it up to 2022! Audiences can expect dancing nutcrackers, giant sweets and singing mice in a fun-filled Christmas extravaganza full of holiday cheer.

Cambridge-based company Stobbs IP has generously supported the creation of The Nutcracker, enabling the show to be fully accessible, and BSL interpreted during its run. We are now seeking further support to ensure we can welcome as many people as possible to the production through our funded ticket scheme.

This scheme welcomes hundreds of people into the venue each year, including young carers, refugee families, children in care, young people with disabilities and food bank users.

We hope that with additional support from businesses and individuals we can welcome a further 500 people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend.

Just a £10 donation buys a child a ticket and also an ice cream!

Information on how to donate can be found at here.

Matt Burman, Artistic Director at Cambridge Junction, said:

“We’re thrilled to be making this fabulous and inclusive new adaptation of such a classic Christmas tale, with the amazing Sarah Blanc and Moxie Brawl. They are such brilliant artists to be working with, and their most recent show, Punk Alley, delighted family audiences earlier this year. We’re really excited that this year every show will be a relaxed performance, with sign language integrated into the show, as well as captioning and audio description, making this the most accessible Christmas show ever at Cambridge Junction. We’re also raising money at the moment for our Funded Ticket Scheme. So do get in touch if you can help financially support this vital project which allows us to welcome children, young people and families from across the city, and share the power of live performance at a time when we need the joy our Christmas show can bring even more than ever before.”

Sarah Blanc, Artistic Director of Moxie Brawl, said:

“We love working with the team at Cambridge Junction and it is an honour to be invited to create their 2022 Christmas show which will be our biggest show to date. We believe everyone should have access to all stories so we are proud that every show will be relaxed, have BSL Interpretation and have pre-show orientation along with offering audio described shows. We have been working with Cambridge Junction since 2016 and are excited to be returning with this ambitious new show which we are currently developing along with designer Kat Heath and composer Quiet Boy whose music will bring the story to life.”

Relaxed Performances have an informal atmosphere which can be particularly suitable for anyone who feels more comfortable in a relaxed environment which allows for noise and movement, or exit/re-entry when needed. This may include children, young people and adults with neurodivergence such as autism, learning difficulties and other sensory or communication needs.
