Another instalment in the New Routes series, an evening of acoustic, folk and roots artists.

Set out cabaret style with candles on tables, it’s a comfortable and intimate space to listen to the best emerging and established artists from the area.

Featuring…

Wayward Jane

Wayward Jane’s music is a modern, transatlantic interpretation of American folk and Old Time traditions, blending roots music with fresh arrangements and original compositions. Their rich sound features fiddle, clawhammer banjo, double bass, guitar, wooden flute and close vocal harmonies. Wayward’s live shows have a joyful energy, expressing the fine musicianship and playful chemistry of the band members. Ranging in mood from high-octane, toe-tapping tunes to tender and soulful songs, Wayward Jane tend to leave audiences with a glow in their hearts.

Wayward Jane have appeared together at folk clubs and festivals across the land, touring extensively in the UK and Ireland. They were recently featured live in session on BBC Radio Scotland’s Travelling Folk where Bruce MacGregor remarked “they’re just that bit different from anything else happening in Scotland!” The band are busy members of the Edinburgh traditional music scene, playing in bands such as Brothers Gillespie, Dowally and Michael Starkey & Hannah Read. They have released two albums – “Wayward Jane” and “Old Train”, and will be releasing a third later this year.

“Wayward Jane weaves a gorgeous tapestry of heart wrenching vocals and tasteful, informed instrumentation. I could listen to these guys all day!” – Rachel Baiman

Clare Hayes

Clare Hayes is a singer with a deep love of story and song.  Whether written by friends, drawn from her Irish and Scottish roots, or absorbed from a childhood surrounded by folk and country, she interprets songs she loves with a palpable authenticity.

With a healthy respect for melancholy and a voice that can move from smoke to clear water on the same note, she silences the room and draws the listener in.

Clare accompanies herself on acoustic guitar and Irish flatback bouzouki.  Joining her for New Routes will be Sean O’Hanrahan (piano) and Ben Smith (pedal steel/ guitars).

“Clare’s voice is treacle, it is rich, pure and flows effortlessly”
“A voice that is as enchanting as it is true”
