Heart of Noise Cambridge is an event series dedicated to ambient, electronic and experimental music in a live setting. It aims to promote these and related genres across Cambridge by featuring local, national and international artists, both solo and in collaboration.

Featuring…

The third edition of HON Cambridge features Birmingham-based experimental bassist and composer Si Paton, avantgarde doom metal project Diaries of Destruction, and finally prolific Italian composer and producer Eraldo Bernocchi who will accompany Diaries of Destruction first, and then deliver a final immersive solo set.

Simon Patton: Simon Paton (b.1988) is a composer, bassist, academic and event curator. He has completed his PhD at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire under the supervision of Ed Bennett and Seán Clancy, researching composition for improvising large ensembles searching for a shared musical language between different stylistic origins. He has previously studied electric bass and jazz composition at University of West London with Paul Westwood and Eddie Harvey respectively. Past projects he has been involved in include the prog-jazz group Selectric, punk-funk big band Pack of Wolves Arkestra and the acoustic-grindcore suite Gillberg Variations.  As an improviser, he has performed with the likes of Nils Økland, Steve Tromans, Chris Sharkey, Maria Chiara Argirò, Cath Roberts and regularly plays with Apocalypse Jazz Unit. Currently, he plays in the trans-Atlantic no wave duo Phame and still performs several gigs of improvised music. His academic work has seen him present research at conferences throughout Europe. He was previously the founder and curator of Thinking/Not Thinking Fest – a three-day festival celebrating musical juxtapositions, and currently runs the concert series Don’t Mind Control.

Diaries of Destruction: Diaries of Destruction is a collaborative experimental and avant-garde metal project by led by Elif Yalvaç with ambient and doom influences. DoD produces experimental music in an accessible frame with a focus on new collaborations and working in new ways. In Bryan Beller’s words: “Diaries of Destruction draws on the darker, moodier, more contemplative side of Aphex Twin and Nine Inch Nails and many other influences … The whole album is a wonderful sounding, hypnosis-inducing, bit-crunching reflection of where we find ourselves today.” Heart of Noise Cambridge 3 features the current lineup of Diaries of Destruction as a duo including Jordan Muscatello, a London-based bass player operating mainly within improvised and experimental music. He regularly performs with Apocalypse Jazz Unit, The London Experimental Ensemble and many other London improvisors and has in the past performed as part of Improvizone and with Darkroom. In addition to his regular activities Jordan also plays bass with death/thrash metallers The Bleeding.

Eraldo Bernocchi: Eraldo Bernocchi is an Italian composer, arranger, producer and guitarist with a solid reputation as an all round sonic sculptor. Starting his career in the late 70’s as a guitarist in independent punk bands, in the mid ’80’s Eraldo co-founded the conceptual audio project Sigillum-S which grew into a highly acclaimed international cult act. A relentless sound explorer, he collaborated with numerous artists including Bill Laswell,  Nils Petter Molvaer, Harold Budd , Russell Mills, Toshinori Kondo, Raiz and Almamegretta, DJ Disk, Thomas Fehlmann, Zu, DJ Olive, Markus Stockhausen, Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, Robin Guthrie, Colin Edwin, Balazs Pandi, Hoshiko Yamane, Flowdan among many others. Eraldo has composed film music for Academy Award winner Gabriele Salvatores and won the President of the Republic best soundtrack award for the movie soundtrack “Denti”. In 2008, together with music lover Giacomo Bruzzo, Eraldo founded RareNoise Records, a new London based label, which aims to showcase a wide range of cutting edge music. The label has since become an important conduit championing several forward thinking and original artists, as well as releasing a number of Eraldo’s own recordings. He’s also well known as a sound programmer and designer for Power FX, Swedish synthesiser brand Elektron, Latvian Erica Synths and Attack magazine.
