Family Focus Work in Progress

Our seasonal work in progress with work made by members of our artist development network, Troop.

Written and performed by Jude Simpson
Production assistance: Ben Brown

A Noise Annoys is a Poetry Show for all the senses! It features rhymes, noises, challenges, surprises and lots of audience interaction. Bursting with joyful humour and witty wordplay, Jude takes the audience on a mind-bending journey through the sounds of language, and the language of sounds. There is lots of joy, a healthy dose of nonsense, and a few heartfelt moments of beautiful hush.

Using poems, rhymes and tongue-twisters, and adding physical humour, improvised sounds and hilarious props, Jude finds the joy and annoyance in the things we hear. She asks questions like: Is it a noise that’s annoying, or the person making it? Do pingers ever ding? If you had a pet badger, what would you call it? This is a show that will engage children with the spoken and written word, and leave them full of joy at the possibilities of language.

Jude Simpson is a Spoken Word artist who combines poetry, wordplay and song to entertain and delight audiences. Described as charming, appealing and hilarious, she uses her words to tell stories, find truths and explore the world. Jude has toured two solo shows, won three national slam titles and appeared at theatres, festivals, arts centres and poetry clubs around the country. An established performer for adults, Jude more recently began writing for children. She has written a school musical for Kevin Mayhew Publishers, put together her first children’s poetry collection, been published in magazines and anthologies and performed with Michael Rosen.

Jude is available to work in schools and other settings with young people.

“Jude Simpson is funny, sharp, emotional in her work and is a terrific performer. She needs to be seen and heard wherever possible.” – Michael Rosen

“She has words on a string like so many yoyos, and her lines sparkle with wit and panache.” – The Scotsman
