Vincent Gambini: The Chore of Enchantment (work in progress)

Date:Fri 19 Jan

Vincent Gambini returns to Cambridge Junction with brand new magical material.

Performing with his trademark ironic detachment, Gambini plays expertly with our understandings of magic and theatre.

In this work-in-progress Gambini exposes the hidden difficulties of being a magician: the arduous job of creating genuine wonder and enchantment, particularly in times of deep political turmoil. What are magicians to do in the face of the growing disillusion that pervades the world today? This is an ambitious performance about artifice and illusion, politics and deception, total wonder and total disenchantment.

Gambini’s 2015 performance, This is not a magic show, received huge critical acclaim, with four star reviews from The Guardian, Time Out and The Stage, and a tour across the UK and Germany.

This is not a magic show:

This thoughtful, playful and multi-layered piece will make you question how we watch and what we see.’
☆☆☆☆ The Guardian

‘An alternative low-key magic show… Quiet, deliberate and exceptionally controlled.'
☆☆☆☆ Time Out

‘Takes apart the clockwork mechanics of wonder in ingenious style’
☆☆☆☆ Fest Mag

‘A gentle, cerebral show in which Gambini unpicks both his tricks and the expectations of his audience…'
☆☆☆☆ The Stage
