WORKING FAST AND DIRTY led by Rachel Mars
The blank page, the empty rehearsal room. How can we start making performance from very little at all? This workshop uses some of Rachel's working methods to provide ways of getting a rocket up your bum and generating material for performance. For solo makers and group collaborators alike, we'll look at what you've got for free when you walk onstage, how to tell your inner critic to do one, using found text and how to play nicely (and not so nicely) in each other's processes.
Please wear comfortable clothes, and bring pen and paper and an idea for a project / a subject you are interested in.
Rachel Mars is a performance maker who borrows from theatre, live art and comedy. She's interested in people, coping, and how big political issues play out in personal ways. Subjects she's interrogated include the pop and politics of the 80s, rage, the uses and abuses of comedy, and tomboyism. Her new show Our Carnal Hearts opened at Cambridge Junction last year and returns in May. She has performed across the UK, and has recently worked in collaboration with The Royal Court, Tate Modern and Wellcome Trust. Mars.tarrab, her company with Mars.tarrab, are the winners of the 2017 Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Award for their new show ROLLER.
