Sanskruti School of Dance

Sanskruti School of Dance celebrates its 10th anniversary with 'Shakti: Four faces of the Goddess'.  The show weaves together three distinct Indian dance styles; Bharatanatyam, Odissi and Bollywood to reflect on the different forms of Shakti. Accompanied with live Carnatic music, the show brings together 40 dancers from the school.

Shakti, in Sanskrit, means energy and is the personification of divine feminine power that provides energy to the whole universe. She could be in any form: Durga, the protector; Kali, the destroyer of evil; Lakshmi, the bringer of fortune; Saraswati, the fountain of knowledge; and Parvati, the loving wife and doting mother.

Although rooted in ancient Indian scriptures, the different forms of Shakti are still relevant in today’s times. The emotions of love, anger and fear so prevalent in humans as well, are explored in this production.

“As nature, she is mother
As culture, she is daughter
Creator of humanity
Creation of humanity
She is wealth, power, language
Lakshmi, Durga, Saraswati
She is Devi”

[from "7 Secrets of the Goddess" by Devdutt Pattnaik]

… She is the  Goddess, she is you, she is me.
