Time:6.30 - 9.30pm
Venue:J3
Price:£20 | £15 (Troop members)

The Shape of the Pain is a collaboration between director Rachel and writer Chris. It is based on Rachel's own lived experience of chronic pain and whether it is possible to ever understand someone else's pain. Rachel has a neurological condition so sensitive, even talking about it makes the pain worse. This workshop will explore how the pair developed the show in a way which drew on Rachel's life without being damaging or unsafe. The session will also delve into how to make highly individual sensory experiences understandable on stage, and how theatre can help us understand them, and ourselves.

Rachel Bagshaw makes innovative theatre which uses sound and creative access to tell stories. Previous work includes Fringe First Award winning The Shape of the Pain with Chris Thorpe, Augmented by Sophie Woolley (Ovalhouse), Icons (WOW Hull 2017), Hamlet, (Young Vic), Resonance at the Still Point of Change (Unlimited Festival, South Bank Centre), The Rhinestone Rollers, Just Me, Bell (Graeae). She is Associate Director at the Unicorn Theatre, and an Associate Artist at the Bush Theatre and Wilton's.

Chris Thorpe is a writer and performer from Manchester, and an associate at the Royal Exchange Theatre.
