As part of our PALAVER Season, supporting the development of new queer positive performance work for children and family audiences, we are hosting the PALAVER SYMPOSIUM. 

Join us for a day-long interactive symposium for arts and cultural sector professionals exploring what it means to make intersectional queer-positive performance work for children. The day’s programme will include interactive workshops, panel discussions, awareness training, and open conversations on artist development, emotional labour, and marketing.

Over the course of the day participants will begin to develop strategies and competences for making meaningful space for queer families in theatre progrmaming, and to develop, support, and present queer positive performance for children and families. 

PROGRAMME: 

11:30 - 12:00  - Arrivals at Cambridge Junction. 

12:00 - 12:15 - Symposium Welcome from Adam Carver (they/them), Artistic Director of Fatt Projects. 

12:15 - 13:30 - introductory Panel Discussion: The Joy and Grief of Queer Childhood - Conversations with Makers, Producers, &  Organisations developing LGBTQ+ inclusive performance work for young audiences.  

13:30 - 14:15  - Lunch

14:15 - 15:45 - WORKSHOP: Navigating The Storm: marketing, communication, and tackling trolls. 

15:45 - 16:00 - Break

16:00 - 17:15 - Closing Panel Discussion: Oh, What a PALAVER! - conversations with the five artists creating new performance work as part of PALAVER.

17:15 - 17:30 - Closing remarks. 

*exact times are subject to change, all activity will take place between 11:30 and 17:30. 

This symposium is aimed at venue artistic directors, programmers, producers, artist development professionals, as well as independent artists and producers. 

Ticket prices are tiered depending on organisational size, a limited number of paid travel bursaries for independent practitioners are available, please contact Ema Boswood at ema.boswood@junction.co.uk   

When booking for the PALAVER Symposium you will receive a discount ticket code to book for the PALAVER Festival the following day.
