Palaver Family Festival

Bringing our PALAVER season to its glittering conclusion is PALAVER FAMILY FESTIVAL, a day-long celebration of inclusive family performance work.

Throughout the day we’ll be transforming Cambridge Junction into discos, workshops, DIY costume-making, fabulous storytelling, music, and performance spaces. Featuring five newly commissioned performance extracts in our SHOW SELECTION BOXES from some of the UK’s leading LGBTQ+ performers, as well as a programme of creative workshops, dancing, storytelling, and theatre from across the country, PALAVER Family Festival is a space for all families to come together, learn, laugh, and celebrate themselves.

Our PALAVER FESTIVAL PARTY will be hosted by RuPaul's Dragrace UK legend, Ginny Lemon. You may also recognise Ginny from their appearance on The X Factor! Known for their alternative and highly campy drag we are very excited to have them join our wonderful line-up.

Festival running order

From 10am: Fun activities across the building
11am-12pm: Performances from Yshee Black & Harry Clayton-Wright
1-2pm: Performances from Vijay Patel, Emma Frankland & Katy Baird
3-5pm : Palaver Party featuring Ginny Lemon & Symoné

PALAVER is a welcoming space for everyone. If price is in any way a barrier to you engaging with this event, please contact Ema Boswood at ema.boswood@junction.co.uk and we can arrange tickets for you to attend.

Praise for PALAVER

“The PALAVER! project looks absolutely wonderful! Having something like it when I was growing up would've been invaluable in creating a sense that I belonged to a larger community. There is still a woeful lack of resources available to young LGBTQ+ people and this project will go a long way in helping all children with their confidence, creativity and understanding. But mainly it looks so FUN!"

Joe Lycett, comedian, and broadcaster

“The Palaver Family Festival sounds absolutely wonderful. A celebration of inclusion, diversity and belonging. It looks as if it will be a manifestation of the brilliant (Stonewall) poster that many children and young people will have seen in their schools showing different examples of families but all adding up to the same experience of love. The aim of this work is timely and important; it is vital that all young people see themselves in the stories that are told of the world they live in and to see themselves reflected back so that they feel valued, appreciated and seen!”

Rae Snape, Headteacher/National Leader of Education and author of The Headteacher's Handbook (Bloomsbury, 2021)

"I took my daughter (8) and son (4) to PALAVER and we had a ball! The performers were lovely, engaging and lots of fun. My daughter loved the dancing and the story time, and my son was really into the bubbles and craft session. I would thoroughly recommend this show to all families as it has a bit of everything, songs, amazing artists, stories, dancing, and glitter!"

Becky, parent

"My daughter (aged 8) had an absolute blast at this event. She really enjoyed the crafts and the dancing and games. It was a fun, colourful event, well organised and thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended. We will definitely be back!"

Emma, parent
