Category Busting with New Art Club

Date:Wed 28 Mar
Time:6.30 - 9.30pm
Price:£20 (Troop Members £15)

New Art Club will lead a workshop based on their latest performance piece - Cupid's Revenge - a show that is a passionate plea in defence of love, real love.

They will lead participants through a series of tasks related to the performance. Expect dancing, comedy, working with music, making lists, composition and telling stories about falling in and out of love. Perhaps you could bring your relationship problems to the workshop and ask Tom and Pete to be your Agony Uncles*.

New Art Club’s Tom Roden and Pete Shenton are a unique double act who create shows that combine dance, theatre and comedy.

Their category-busting work has been translated into French and Mandarin and has been performed in venues as diverse as The Royal Opera House, pubs, comedy clubs, arts centres, state theatres, village halls, Sadlers Wells, Spiegel Tents, and Wembley Stadium. They won The Edinburgh Spotlight Best Comedy Award in 2010 and two of their shows have had successful runs at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

They have worked as guest presenters on The Culture Show and The Review Show and have been featured on BBC’s Highlights of the Fringe and in Channel 4’s Random Acts series and in Australia on ABC television. In 2013 they were commissioned by the Royal Opera House to create a 20-minute comic version of Rigoletto and by the Rugby League World Cup to create a large-scale dance that was performed at every game of the tournament.

In 2016, they were commissioned by Without Walls to create Campervan of Love, a funny, musical, dancing adventure for all the family that takes place in and around a customised campervan.
