Wanted: Volunteers (Aged 60+) To Take Part In Performance Workshop

NOW NOT NOW performance workshops – exploring time, memory and age

Call out for participants age 60+

A creative and thoughtful 2-day workshop exploring ‘Time’. A chance to take part in discussions, performance and film experiments and to help shape a new show by a team of award-winning theatre makers.

No theatre or dance experience needed. Just a curiosity and willingness to experiment and share your expertise.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

We are a group of theatre makers (all around 40) creating a new, large scale performance work called NOW NOT NOW that hopes to wrestle with our finiteness and open up understandings of ‘time’ beyond human structures. In the final piece we will use cameras and playback to show action at different speeds, and we will work with a chorus of local participants of different ages.

But for now we are in the early stages and want to work with experts from an older generation to hear about their experiences of time and develop ideas for the show. What is it like to have lived longer and what does it mean to you to look forward or back? Has the way you ‘feel Time’ hanged over your life? Does time really speed up as you age or is that just a myth?

WORKSHOP

Day 1 will be for discussions, ideas and getting to know each other. We’ll introduce you to the ideas in the project, and share some of our research. Together we’ll have a guided discussion where everyone can share their own thoughts and experiences of time, ageing and memory.

Day 2 is more practical. We’ll do some gentle movement tasks, playing with tempos and dynamics, which we’ll film and watch back at different speeds.

All the activities are flexible so you can choose the level of movement you feel comfortable with. And you can take part whether moving with your whole body, or from a stationary seated position, or if you use a wheelchair or any kind of mobility aid. We’re interested in your own personal movement quality, whatever that might look like.

Ideally you will attend both days, but you’re still welcome to take part if you can only make one day. Light refreshments will be provided!

Times and place:

Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th August, 2pm – 5pm each day.

At Cambridge Junction, Clifton Way, Cambridge CB1 7GX
