2025 Troop New Ideas Award Callout
2025 TROOP NEW IDEAS AWARD CALLOUT FOR PROPOSALS
Funded by Julius Stobbs
OVERVIEW
We will be awarding two packages of support for a new idea in any contemporary theatre form (performance, dance, live art, circus, cabaret). This year we are awarding these as micro-commissions to support an initial R&D phase with a work in progress performance as the end result.
- There is no expectation to seek additional funding or to make a finished work
- Plays and projects with autobiographical themes are not a priority
- You must have a valid Troop membership on the day of the application deadline
- Only one application per member can be made
PACKAGE OF SUPPORT
- £1,800 cash
- A week in J3
- Time in the Hub / Boardroom as required
- A scratch performance in J3 on 20th November in a double bill with the other award winner, in front of an audience (with a fee of £300 included in the cash award), plus technical and marketing support from CJ’s team
- Video & photographic footage of the performance for your promotional materials
- Feedback and advice on the creative process and the onward journey of the work by Cambridge Junction’s Artistic Director and Artist Development Producer

The Idea (250 words)
What is the new idea you wish to explore? Please give as much detail as possible at this stage to bring your idea to life, eg. what ideas, themes or stories do you want to explore and why?
How you will bring it to life? (250 words)
- What will your starting point/s be?
- What materials, techniques, collaborators will you use?
- What form/s or genre/s will you use?
- Will you work with other people, if so who and why?
NB: We are more interested in supporting a starting point (or points) of a new piece of work rather than an experiment with form or technique, although that could be part of what makes it new.
Finances
Please give a brief breakdown of how you might see yourself spending the cash (£1,800 in total), ensuring everybody is paid at least legal minimums. FYI you do not need to include marketing and technical support for the work in progress performance as that is included in the package of support.
