Flies, molecular love, public transport, chocolate, social dance, and nuclear cocktails: Junctures², is a day of live performances and provocations exploring innovation in interdisciplinary and transcultural practice from the UK, Europe, South America, Japan and the Middle East.

Junctures² is a platform for those interested in the discovery of new ideas born out of the clash of cultures and a chance to observe, explore, dance, laugh, question and argue.

Dotted around the building, 30 Bird will present the latest Junctures commissions:

THE VILLA PROJECT: looks at architecture and memory through the unique landscape of residential buildings in Chile where domesticity sat side by side with torture; with performer Daniela Contreras and film maker Edison Cajas

VANISHING POINTS: delves into the phenomenon of Johatsu, the vanishing people of Japan; with choreographer Zoi Dimitriou and anthropologist Sachiko Horiguchi.

THE MOTHER OF ALL PAIN: investigates communication between children in pain, clinicians and the mother figure as the axis point of crisis, with Professor Bernie Carter and Writer Rob Young.

In partnership with the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, 30 Bird is delighted to share a number of interdisciplinary collaborations including, VOREPHILIA an experimental opera and a multi-media installation that invites its audience to explore the relationship between parasite and host (winner of the joint LMB/30 Bird commission). With Gareth Bloomfield, Waste Paper Opera Company and visual artist Gary Zhang.

Special event: ONCE IRAN FROM YOU: join 30 Bird Artistic Director, Mehrdad Seyf and Artist/film maker, Richard DeDomenici for drinks, conversation, music, Iranian pastries, dancing and performance, as they recount the story of their failed attempts to organize a Chris De Burgh concert in Tehran. Featuring performances by Tara Fatehi Irani and Pouya Ehsaei.

Junctures² is produced in partnership with Cambridge Junction and will include more presentations by artists and academics from Anglia Ruskin University, St Matthew’s school, SOAS and public works amongst others.

Events will carry on into the night with a concert by the Iranian musician Peyman Heydarian (additional ticket required)
