HEARTY (digital)
Presented by Emma Frankland
Bearing wings made of sharp knives and shooting fireballs into the air, Emma tackles the current media fascination with trans lives and interrogates the controversial biotechnology of HRT.
Responding to her experiences with trans people in Brazil, Sulawesi, Turtle Island and the UK – HEARTY is about confronting the challenges of modern trans existence, whilst listening to our ancestors and preparing the way for future generations.
HEARTY was originally made by acclaimed theatre maker Emma Frankland as the fifth and final stage show in Frankland’s None of Us is Yet a Robot project – a series of performances made in response to her gender transition and the politics surrounding trans identity over the past ten years. HEARTY has now been made into a film with Frankland’s filmmaking collaborator Rosie Powell following their previous award-winning collaboration Rituals for Change.
Bringing in the voices of Frankland’s international collaborators, HEARTY will be screened alongside four interviews with trans people from each region. Each film will be screened with subtitles and captions.
HEARTY is supported by Arts Council England and was originally supported by The Yard.
