  • Headliner: Usaama Minhas
  • Support: Jack Bateman

Usaama Minhas is a poet, rapper and actor. Usaama started writing in his teens and later spent a year in New York on an actor training conservatory for Theatre, Film and TV. While in New York, he began performing at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe and the Pyramid Club. On returning to the UK, Usaama moved to London to pursue a career in Hip Hop. In 2013, he released the Hand in Hand EP, a self-produced album combining Rap music and Spoken Word poetry. Later that year, Usaama won the 'Britain's Got Bars' Rap Battle Tournament at French Montana’s show at the indigo at The O2, sharing the stage with Lady Leshurr and Ghetts. Usaama was long-listed for the Outspoken Prize For Poetry 2017, and he was the April 2017 winner of Kat Francois's WORD4WORD poetry slam and the May 2017 winner of the Genesis Slam. Usaama is the 2017 Hammer and Tongue Hackney Slam Champion and the 2018 Hammer and Tongue National Slam Champion. He is currently working on a mixtape and an EP, both set for release in 2018, while he continues to travel and perform poetry, hold workshops and engage in discussions around politics and current affairs.

Jack Bateman's poems take on a life of their own on stage, and tackle issues of gender, identity and sexuality. Some are crazy and camp and others take a more serious tone, but guaranteed is the full force of energy with which he performs them – he is a very physical performer!

Our sacrificial slammer will hopefully be last month's slam winner.
