goo:ga – Parent & Baby Screening and artist talk

Date:Sun 11 Sep 2022
Time:11am & 2pm
Venue:J3
Price:Pay What You Feel

goo:ga is a genre-defying performance film about pregnancy.

Hannah Ballou’s fierce feminist comedy combines with breathtaking vulnerability when her show about her second pregnancy does not go to plan. First the pandemic closes the theatres. Then an incredibly rare fetal cardiac diagnosis sends Hannah and the show spiralling into unknown territory.  Filmed when she was 33 weeks pregnant, join Hannah on the journey to find out what springs eternal from the human breast. (Hint: it’s not milk.)

Warning, goo:ga  contains salty language, naked preggos, erstwhile animals, dodgy child acting, ironic pelvic movement, ukulele feminism, four minutes of literally nothing happening, and themes of fetal illness.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A discussion with writer & performer Hannah Ballou.

‘…an extraordinary journey of heartbreak, fun facts, searing insight, unexpected laughs and a whole lot more besides, in adensely packed but deeply felt hour [...] brilliantly challenging and uncompromising.’
- Ian Foster

’Hannah is a true experimental artist who is tapping into existing forms while not adhering to their rules and doing shit that truly nobody else is doing.’
- Theresa Buchheister, Artistic Director,The Brick, Brooklyn

‘goo:ga is funny, subversive, sensItive, inclusive, informative, and touching. It’s a “raunchy feminist comedy” which is constantly watchable [...] there’s even a guest appearance from a ghost.’
- Louise Penn
