Dance Umbrella

7-22 October 2016

London’s annual international festival of dance returns in October. Following the recent high profile debate about the dominance of male choreographic voices in the ‘upper echelons’ of the dance world, it’s great to see a programme where women are front and centre. It’s also a programme full of work that breaks free of dance’s ‘norms’ to celebrate different bodies, forms and techniques, including non-professional and disabled dancers (Gala) and older dancers (Use my Body While it’s Still Young). There’s plenty for families and children too.

Once again it’s impossible to recommend just one thing, so here’s an overview of the shows we are most looking forward to seeing:

  • I Ride in Colour and Soft Focus, No Longer Anywhere –  8-9th October Rich Mix
  • Gala  – 11th October Bernie Grant Arts Centre
  • Use my Body While it’s Still Young – 19-20th October The Place
  • Wallflower – 20-22nd October Battersea Arts Centre
