Neil Bartlett’s Jekyll and Hyde takes Robert Louis Stevenson’s familiar story and turns it inside out, creating a dark, unsettling world of secrets, desire, respectability and transformation. But this is no straightforward retelling. Bartlett gives the story a striking new perspective – placing a woman at its heart and giving her agency in a world where Victorian society would normally deny her a voice.

As Hyde’s presence grows ever more dangerous, the boundaries between respectable society and the darker impulses beneath it begin to fracture. The result is a gripping exploration of power, identity, repression and the price of living by society’s rules.
