After The Tide

Event Information
‘After the Tide’ explores the pressing issue of coastal erosion and the severe threats faced from rising sea levels and inadequate government policies.
The film focuses on the quaint village of Happisburgh, Norfolk, UK, as residents’ homes get closer to the retreating edge, they see communities deemed “more economically viable” receiving substantial defence investments. It underscores the dire situation across the UK, with thousands of homes at risk and a bleak future as national sea defences fail. In response, new strategies and government initiatives, such as the ‘CTAP’ trial, are being tested in high-risk areas, offering potential solutions like managed adaptation. For some, it’s a breath of fresh air – a relief that there may finally be some help, for others it’s a reminder that their homes, communities and way of life isn’t important and their decades-long plea for robust sea defences has been ignored.
‘It’s undeniable: our planet is dying. The Earth is suffering, and the rate at which Happisburgh’s coastline is decaying is just one of the many problems that have arisen because of it. Harrington’s film brings awareness to the small crises that are contributing to the larger catastrophe.’
