Staging strange texts: A workshop for the end of the world

Date:Mon 30 Jul
Time:4pm
Venue:J2
Price:£9 | £19 (show + workshop) | £16 (show + workshop cons.)

What’s more dramatic than reading a letter that wasn’t addressed to you? Or a shopping list for a nuclear bunker?

Using everyday texts to make theatre is the subject of this three-hour theatre workshop for young people aged 16–25. It will be led by The Wax House’s artistic director Laura Day and the cast of Doom’s day.

Drawing on our experiences creating Doom’s day, we’ll pick up and play with the kind of words you don’t usually see onstage. And we’ll be talking about how you can use these techniques to rehearse and devise bold new plays.

This workshop is geared to anyone interested in theatre who wants to move beyond traditional kinds of script. We’ll be exploring the playfulness of unusual texts through games, ensemble work, and improv. No previous experience is needed, just a willingness to have fun and try something new.
