Junction Young Company

Junction Young Company is an advanced training programme for committed performers aged 14 to 21 that provides an opportunity to work with innovative directors, theatre companies and visiting artists. The Company will develop skills in a wide variety of theatrical conventions and styles, culminating in an innovative public performance on the J2 stage.

The company will meet Mondays, 6 – 8pm from September – April. In the lead up to the performances, there will be some intensive rehearsals during school holidays in Term Two.

Typically, a programme of JYC will consist of:

Term One (Sept – Dec) Work with a leading theatre professional to develop key skills and techniques in movement, voice, character creation, devising, cross-art form performance and more.

Term Two (Jan - April)  Junction Young Company will work with an innovative director to create an original devised production to be performed to a public audience on the J2 stage in April.

If you are interested in becoming a member sign up for a free trial session that takes place on Monday 18th September, in J3 Cambridge Junction. Please note the trial will consist of a group based workshop (you do not need to prepare anything specific). We are looking for people who show commitment, passion and can work effectively as part of the company.

Following a successful trial you will be invited to join JYC at a cost of £60 per term.

We are fortunate to welcome back some previous directors for the new year of JYC, Valentina Ceschi, THEATRE MAKER & PERFORMER and co-artistic director of Dancing Brick during Term One. There will also be opportunities to work with visiting companies Joan Cleville Dance and Igor and Moreno and of course, opportunities to come and see work in our main programme. Valentina and her company will also be working with Cambridge Junction to make this year’s Christmas Show, Rapunzel.

In the New Year, we welcome back Hester Chillingworth who will be working with JYC to create an original devised production to be performed in J2. Hester makes performances and low-key interventionist installations, which often play with language, simplicity and misinterpretation. Hester is currently Creative Producer: Participation and Engagement with Forced Entertainment and will be drawing upon the companies unique style in the making of the work.

If you have any questions regarding JYC or would like to discuss financially assisted places please contact Creative Learning Manager, Lisa Broom.
