Inclusive Programme for Young People
Junction Young Company (JYC) is an inclusive programme for young people aged 14 – 21, who are interested in and excited by live performance.
JYC participants are supported by professional artists and theatre companies, developing a range of theatrical skills, and annually the ensemble reates an original, devised performance which is showcased at Cambridge Junction.
Previously JYC have collaborated with Forced Entertainment, Gecko Theatre, Made in China, Dancing Brick, Breach Theatre, Bar Groisman and many other professional theatre companies.
JYC offers a safe and playful space to express yourself, connect with others and be heard. There is no audition process and no need for any previous theatrical experience.
As a collective, JYC will make decisions on content, creative direction and public performances.
We are excited to announce the facilitators for the new year of JYC starting in September 2023. Bar Groisman and Cassandra Hercules!
Cassie Hercules (she/her) is an Outreach Director, actor, writer, producer, co-founder of CultureClash Theatre and has an MA in Acting from Guildford School of Acting. CultureClash Theatre’s work explores contemporary socio-political issues in Britain and tells the stories of the most disadvantaged individuals in today’s society using physical theatre, improvisation, devising and story-telling.
Bar Groisman (she/her) first trained at DanceEast Centre and National Youth Dance Company before graduating from Northern School of Contemporary Dance. She is now a choreographer, movement director and the Artistic Director of Sababa Co. Sababa Co. is a contemporary dance theatre company creating physical and theatre dance works that explore the boundaries of movement, text, music, and set.
When?
JYC meet Mondays, 6 – 8pm from September – April. In the lead up to the performances, there will be some intensive rehearsals during school holidays, in Term Two.
Typically, a programme of JYC will consist of:
Term One (Sep – Nov) JYC will work with a professional artist/theatre company to connect as an ensemble and develop key skills and techniques in movement, voice, character creation, devising, cross-art form performance and more.
Term Two (Jan – April) JYC will work with a professional artist/theatre company to create an original devised production to be performed to a public audience on the J2 stage in April.
