Junction Young Company

Junction Young Company is an advanced training programme for committed performers aged 14 to 21 that provides an opportunity to work with innovative directors, theatre companies and visiting artists. The Company will develop skills in a wide variety of theatrical conventions and styles, culminating in an innovative public performance on the J2 stage.

The company will meet Mondays, 6 – 8pm from September – April. In the lead up to the performances, there will be some intensive rehearsals during school holidays in Term Two.

Typically, a programme of JYC will consist of:

Term One (Sep – Dec) Work with a leading theatre professional to develop key skills and techniques in movement, voice, character creation, devising, cross-art form performance and more.

Term Two (Jan - April)  Junction Young Company will work with an innovative director to create an original devised production to be performed to a public audience on the J2 stage in April.

Over the two 2019 terms JYC participants will be working with arts professionals:

  • Sneaky & Raptor – a professional circus and dance company. You are not expected to have any experience as this session will be an introduction to play and movement within a theatre space.  
  • Gecko - an award-winning and internationally-acclaimed physical theatre company.  
  • Jamie Wood - a performer and director with a strong record in creating striking and accessible theatre which has toured extensively all over the world.    
  • This Egg – an award winning, internationally touring company who devise work which pushes the boundaries of live performance.     
  • David Gilbert – a professional theatre director who has assisted and directed many large scale productions in theatre such as the Young Vic and the Almeida Theatre.
