Ant Hampton: Crazy But True

Date:Sun 23 Feb
Time:3pm - 6pm (drop in)
Venue:J3
Price:Free (ticketed)

We can bring a child into the world, but how on earth do we bring this world into the child?

CRAZY BUT TRUE is an interactive installation performed by children who, cast as 'experts', are given their lines via headphones. Without any rehearsal, they repeat what they hear: a rolling list of extraordinary facts - some serious, others very funny.

The number of wild animals on Earth has halved in the past 40 years.

You can't kill yourself by holding your breath.

Butterflies taste with their feet.

As the facts link and switch, the fearlessness of a child's wonder is felt alongside the willingness to absorb what the world has to offer, no matter how crazy it seems. For the adults watching, there’s a sense of being both ’outside' this game and yet deeply involved in (or responsible for) the world it describes. For the kids it’s a funny and engaging fantasy of owning a kind of knowledge they may already be collecting, and some may also develop a sense that there are reasons why some of the information is not often heard.

Suitable for all ages, but children taking part must be aged between 8-11 years old.

Children attending with adults are able to participate on the day. There is no rehearsal but we do suggest that they watch others before giving it a go. The performance time for each child is 12 minutes.

No reviews to display.
