“You mustn’t be ashamed, Comrade, of the work you’ve done in the war. If there was no victory, we’d have no kind of life. Not even this.”

Russia, 1921: a small town on the River Potudan. Nikita has come home from the war to a society profoundly changed – and yet, somehow, the same.

Bliss is a tale of love, loss and redemption based on a short story by Andrey Platonov. Full of wit and yearning, Fraser Grace’s new adaptation finds intimate detail in its portrayal of a society recovering from catastrophe.

As Nikita and Lyuba try to forge a life together against the odds, they learn that they must accept the past – and themselves – before they can build the future.

Andrey Platonov’s work was strictly censored under Stalin’s rule, but has recently been rediscovered by a contemporary audience. Bliss is adapted by award-winning playwright Fraser Grace (Breakfast with Mugabe, RSC / West End / New York). Bliss comes to Cambridge Junction from the International Platonov Arts Festival in Voronezh.’
