Disability Consultancy for Creative Change (DC4CC) Open Session One: ARTISTS, VENUES & PRODUCING

Open Session One of the Disability Consultancy for Creative Change (DC4CC) is an opportunity for D/deaf, disabled and neurodiverse artists to gather with venue programmers, in an informal online setting, to discuss issues and limitations related to the development and sustainability of artistic practice.

The session will look into the existing gaps in facilitating, commissioning and producing disabled-led work.

The session will be structured through asking three research questions and facilitated by the DC4CC Consultants, but this is deliberately an open forum for conversation to flow freely.

The questions we’ll be asking are:

  • What is lost between artistic idea and delivery – is there a process of normalising your art to be palatable to wider audiences and ‘sellable’ to those making decisions about performance and touring?
  • Do you feel like there are things you have to comply with (in terms of your disability being used as a currency) that get in the way of your artistic explorations and enquiry?
  • What kind of environment would excite and inspire you in your creative practice?

The session will take place over Zoom, with a BSL interpreter and captions available.

We welcome artists and venue programmers/staff at all stages in their career to attend this session.
