The Observatory

Physically The Observatory takes the form of a linear concrete construction, made in sections and attached to the exterior wall of The Junction. Within the concrete 'slab' a series of six hollow chambers will exist, into each of which a 40inch LCD screen will be securely inserted. These screens offer a rolling programme of short film pieces that look at human movement and interaction in a multitude of forms and images, conveying a vast array of pursuits.

We refer to this construction as The Observatory, a place equipped for the observation of 'nature'. The views from this Observatory however, are more concerned with humankind and convey a sense of a curious species that are busily engaged in a shared framework of activities. This work pays particular attention to our need for expressions of joy, of triumph and of serenity. In a world where our connections with each other are becoming more and more technologically based, the means by which we physically share time together are precious.

A menu of some forty views can be accessed by the use of a touch sensitive screen at the Observatory itself, or they can be called up online and entered to be viewed. A further section within the menu will exist whereby viewers can construct their own sequence of six images to be logged and screened.
