Applications for Escalator Performing Arts 2012-13  are now open.

Escalator is an artist development initiative which aims to identify, nurture and establish creative talent in the East across all art forms.

Escalator Performing Arts is for artists, companies, producers and arts professionals whose practice takes place in the East of England and who define their practice as contemporary performance including innovative theatre, performance art and/or live art.  The scheme supports a wide range of development proposals, and is designed for artists and other arts professionals at a point where they are ready to take a step up – or perhaps in a different direction – artistically and / or practically. Escalator Performing Arts provides packages of structured support to further practice and achieve development aims.

The programme is lead and produced by The Junction, in partnership with Colchester Arts Centre, and supported by Arts Council England, East.  Escalator Performing Arts has been running for eight years and has supported a wide range of artists and companies (emerging and mid-career) in their creative development, including: Tatty-Dell, NIE, Molly Naylor, Hannah Jane Walker, Dan Canham, and Bryony Kimmings. Each round of Escalator Performing Arts aims to support up to ten artists, companies and producers.

For this round we are opening the initiative up to a broad range of arts professionals.  Alongside artists and producers we encourage proposals from advocates and facilitators who contribute to the contemporary performance infrastructure in the East. We are keen to hear from people who contribute to contemporary performance in ways other than being artists and producers.  This may include a writer blogging about contemporary performance, a mentor who support the work of artists or an active art professional who organise networks.
