The founder and main teacher of FlamencoSevilla is Diana Aura Fransen. Diana is originally from The Netherlands, although she has distant Spanish roots from her father's side. It was her mother who introduced Diana to Flamenco at an early age, because in her younger years she had been a practitioner of Flamenco herself.
After her studies as a translator/interpreter of several languages, which took her to Nepal, Belgium, and France, Diana re-encountered her love for Flamenco during a summer in Spain at the age of 20. She took a number of classes in The Netherlands and Belgium and then decided to move to Seville in order to study Flamenco dance intensively.
Diana lived in Seville for 5 years and studied with prestigeous dancers such as Milagros Menjibar, Matilde Coral, El Mimbre and Carmen Ledesma. She obtained the two diplomas - beginners/intermediate 1-year-course and advanced/professional 6-month-course - of the Cristina Heeren Foundation in Seville, and she has several years of regular teaching experience. Diana came to Cambridge to further broaden her professional curriculum with a degree in Communication. After graduating with a first class degree she has now decided to extend her stay in Cambridge in order to set up FlamencoSevilla and to pass on her love and knowledge of Flamenco and Andalusian culture to people in Cambridge.
As a performer Diana is considered a very charismatic dancer who is characterised by an elegant style much in the line of her teachers Milagros Menjibar and Matilde Coral. Her students have generally been very faithful to her and describe her as a very warm and competent teacher, who will push them to the limits of their abilities with as much love and humour as discipline.
