Ever wanted to know how to start a career in the arts but don’t know where to find out?
The Junction gets numerous requests from young people wanting to know where and how they go about training for a career in the arts. Not everyone can afford to go away to university and not everyone wants to - so what is available here on your doorstep?
The Junction’s first arts and creative industries career fair on 19 March 2005 helped lay out the range of opportunities available. Attenders were able to find out about the courses in the region and have a chat with professionals working in the arts about how they got started and what the job is really like.
Dancers, club promoter’s, software designer's, script writer’s, theatre director’s, press agents, graphic designers, web designers, actors, musicians, theatre technicians, arts administrators, marketeers, film maker, music producer, DJ, tour manager, dance producers, publishers, visual artists – these were just a few of the professionals attenders could talk to. The region's colleges and universities, funders and arts agencies were also be on hand to lead attenders through the available options.
