Cambridge Band Competition Music Business Seminars 2004
Calling all local bands. If you are looking for tips on how to get more gigs, how to attract audiences and how to release your own material, The Junction's Music Business Seminars on Saturday 6th March are for you.

This event has been organised by The Junction's Music Development Producer Richard Brown. Richard's background in performance and concert and festival promotion makes him well placed to offer tips on how your band can make an impact.

The day if free and bands can choose to attend all or just individual seminars. Interested bands are asked to email to book their space.

9.30 - The Good Gig Getting Guide
This seminar develops your knowledge of the live Music scene. It offers sound advice for bands that want to improve their chances of getting more gigs by exploring the relationship between small promoters and artists. The seminar also looks at the bigger picture including national promoters and agents and offers tips on organising small tours.

11.45 – Blah, Blah, Blah - Publicity Skills for Bands
Get yourself heard above the din. Whether you are a musician in a band, putting on gigs or running a studio it’s a competitive world and we all need publicity these days. This session looks at how to get yourself noticed by equipping you with the basic skills you need to attract more attention. Guerrilla marketing techniques, press releases, biographies, photo shoots, poster design and interviews are all introduced through discussion and examples of good practice.

14.00 – Indie-Pen-Dance Day
Recording and releasing your first single is a milestone in any bands career. This seminar goes through the process of recording, duplication and distribution. With tips on how to choose a studio what questions to ask a manufacturer, preparing for post-production and how to sell the things once they are made. The seminar also offers some advice of the types of deals offered by record companies and why DIY is the best route for new bands.

Seminar Leader - Richard Brown, Music Development Producer @ The Junction
Richard is a reformed musician who has been promoting in Cambridge for over ten years at venues including The Boat Race, the Portland Arms and more recently at The Junction. He was the chair of Strawberry Fair for three years and co-managed Wild Strawberry Music a successful independent record company based in Cambridge. Richard is currently project managing a major three-year music development project in Suffolk called Amplifier and is coordinating a regional strategy for developing outstanding music talent in the eastern region.

All the seminars are free and are aimed at bands that are already gigging but want to make that difficult next step. Please let Richard know via email if you are interested in attending any or all of these seminars.
