2006 Band Competition

The Red Stripe Cambridge Band Competition 2006 Open to Entries
last year's winners - Lounge
The Red Stripe Cambridge Band Competition 2006, hosted by The Junction, is now open for entries. The competition is open to anyone playing original music from within Cambridgeshire or from within a 30 mile radius of Cambridge. The best performers at the competition will win a cash prize of £1000.

The four heats and final will be held on each Wednesday throughout March. The bands will be judged by a panel of music industry professionals on their song-writing, musicianship and a new category ‘sign-ability’ - in other words whether the judges think they can make a career out of music and sign that all important recording contract.

The Junction’s music team are really looking forward to this year’s competition as Richard Brown Head of Music at the Junction explained, “Over the last year or two we have seen a real explosion of talent in Cambridge and many long-time Cambridge music lovers reckon that the latest crop of bands is the best for some time. The Cambridge scene is finally getting noticed nationally with bands like The Broken Family Band and Captain doing so well the industry is starting to view Cambridge and East Anglia as a real breeding ground for talent”.

So the stage is set for what could be a real break for bands and musicians who think they are ready for the big time. Application forms are available through this website or you can ring on 01223 511511 to get one posted.

The deadline for entries is 5.30pm on Monday 9th January and all entries should include a current CD of their best two or three songs, a photo and band biography. The lucky bands who make it into the heats will be announced on Tuesday 10th January.
