Saturday 2nd September 11am-3pm
Get a taste of what happens in The Junction Theatre at the venue’s first ever open day, plus get a free taste of the finest contemporary vegetarian food in Cambridge!
To coincide with the Cuba Day Beach Party in the Plaza at The Cambridge Leisure Park, the doors of The Junction Theatre will be open for people to come in and have a look at the different spaces, find out about the history of the Junction & watch films produced by local community groups.
There will be lots of activities for children; fun and games include painting a giant-sized mural; face painting; and joining in with ‘It’s Behind You’ – a free hour long workshop celebrating pantomime.
Meanwhile grown-ups can sample free food courtesy of Mouth Music and can even help decide what will be served in The Junction Café in autumn when Mouth Music will be joining forces with the existing coffee bar to provide a family friendly vegetarian café.

The Junction presents performances by leading children’s theatre companies on a variety of Saturday, half term holidays and other times during the season.
We also have a programme of children’s classes in drama and dance after school led by experienced freelance tutors and during holiday times we present a varied programme of workshops.
|
We aim to showcase the highest quality theatre for children to entertain & inspire.
Through our workshops & classes we aim to give children the opportunity to learn new skills and to gain confidence in a safe and friendly environment.
|
We seat 135 for children’s theatre – with mats and benches at the front of the theatre to ensure small children get a good view. Seating is unreserved elsewhere for families to sit where they wish. However performances usually sell out – so book early!
Every season we also programme a family show for children aged 7 and upwards. These performances are at 7pm with a capacity of 115.

Family Friendly Project funded by Arts Council England, East
Arbury Nursery Project
Aims
• To introduce families in Arbury to the work of JCDC and to live theatre performance.
• To make new partnerships with the Meadows community centre and Arbury nursery schools to establish ways of working together in the future.
Activities:
Residency of DNA:
• Friday 1 February 2002 – Four puppet making workshops at SNAP Nursery, Arbury Primary School, Colleges Nursery and Playlanders Playgroup.
• Saturday 2 February – two performances of Chicken Licken and the Little Red Hen at the Family Unit at Meadows Community Centre in Arbury.
• June 2002: follow up visit by each nursery to a performance at Cambridge Drama Centre with transport provided.
Participants:
4 Workshops: 60 children took part
2 Performances: Attended by 160 children and adults.
Outcomes:
• The participating children had a very special experience – some had never before seen live theatre.
• The families were made aware of the programme of Cambridge Drama Centre – many for the first time. We will now keep in touch through the Totally Wicked Club sending a newsletter and remembering each child’s birthday.
• Excellent links have been made with the nurseries – we have already started work on another theatre project with Arbury Primary. This is as a direct result of the new contact made.
• The Junction is now looking at how to continue this work to include it in the regular programme. Particularly as we have now found an ideal venue and partners.
