Arrested Development – The multi-gendered, deep-south hip hop ensemble that crashed through the previously bolted industry doors in 1991 are back! Without question, their sound helped to open ears and minds to present day acts like The Fugees, Lauren Hill, The Roots, Eryka Badu, Jill Scott, The Black Eyed Peas etc.
Today’s neo soul movement that has captured the attention of so many undoubtedly owe part of their success to the likes of Arrested Development. Their debut album (on EMI) '3 Years, 5 Months And 2 Days In The Life Of' sold over 5 million copies worldwide, with singles 'Tennessee' ,'People Everyday' & 'Mr Wendal' being massive Top Ten hits in the days when it was practically unheard of to sell that many records as a hip hop group. The social, spiritual and political issues addressed by Arrested Development were literally heard and felt around the globe.
This rapping five-piece comprised of black nationalists, revolutionaries, free thinkers, and all-around funky specimens are still producing soulful tunes with serious meaning and thought.
