Ashes to Ashes

On 21 February 1940 it was decided that a former Polish artillery barracks in Oswiecim would be used as a quarantine camp, intended to hold 10,000 prisoners.

Five years later these barracks were known as Auschwitz/Birkenau and this decision had led to the deaths of at least 1,500,000 people.  Ashes to Ashes tells the story of two of those people in a supremely powerful exploration of the human spirit.

Badac create work that focuses on human rights issues.  Their recent piece The Factory, sold out its entire run at the Edinburgh Festival in 2008 and aroused considerable comment and critical acclaim.

“Ashes to Ashes is both effective and dynamic, and certainly out of the normal range of British drama.  The visceral power of the work is extremely rare”

Stephen Berkoff
