Nationwide Mercury Prize nominees

Nominated for this year’s Nationwide Mercury Prize, Portico Quartet are four young musicians from South London who sound like nothing you’ve ever heard before. They describe their ethos as like an indie band that plays post-jazz, and their unique sound has won them fans from Gilles Peterson to Radio 4 and Notion to BBC Music Magazine, and made them Time Out’s Jazz, Folk and World music album of the year.

Their dance friendly, melodic brand of hook-heavy post-jazz was honed busking across Europe and playing in unusual spaces; churches, galleries and chill-out zones. It’s the mix of ethereal saxophone, flying saucer like Hang (imagine an otherworldly steel drum), clattering drums and earthy double-bass that gives their music it’s inimitable, beautiful sound.

Everybody Moving On

Each season we host a selection of innovative developmental showcases from regional artists. Join us for a taster of interdisciplinary, experimental work.

Everybody Moving On is not about anything specific, it's about what it means to be human. Revealing the indispositions only shared between two friends; daily frustrations are described, sung and laughted at. The piece swings from the most common of territories into the absurd.

After 8 years of working as one half of Ben and Holly, Holly Darton is exploring new collaborations with live artist Jenny Hunt, as part of her Escalator development.

Suitable for ages 16+ only. Bar open from 7pm.
