Uk Outdoor Premiere
On Sat 13 and Sun 14 Sep 2008, hundreds of people witnessed a UK outdoor premiere.
In association with The Junction and the Institute of Astronomy, the 28th Cambridge Film Festival presented a spectacular screening of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY at the Institute of Astronomy after dusk.
This was a UK premiere, for the first time in the UK, Kubrick’s sublime journey into space being shown outdoors in 70mm to highlight its stunning cinematography and renowned soundtrack on a giant 30ft by 50ft inflatable screen.
The lawn was transformed into an outdoor auditorium with hundreds of people coming to the screening over the 2 nights, blankets and picnics in hand. Whatever the weather had in store, the event was going to take place and luckily for all involved (staff and customers alike) it held off.
“Best experience ever, out of all the outdoor shows we've ever done nothing has surpassed last night.” Tony Jones Director of the Cambridge Film Festival.
